The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
